Ryder rents trucks in all shapes and sizes but they’re the kind you need a special license to drive. If you have a truck license you already know more about them than you’re ever going to learn from this website. We’re going to talk about the kind of truck an ordinary car-driving person can handle. We’re going to talk trucks you rent when you move your household or your small business.

We’re going to talk U-haul. You can get anything you need at the larger U-haul rental/ storage centers. You want boxes? They got boxes! You want furniture pads, dollies, trucks with ramps, trucks with trailer hitches, bubble pack, strapping tape, markers, packing paper, they have it. If it is a storage facility too, they even sell the good, heavy locks. If you’re just starting out and don’t have much stuff, they have little bitty trailers, bigger trailers, very big trailers. They have car hitches so you can drive the truck and tow your car. They have boxes for your china, boxes for your clothes, boxes for your lampshades, any kind of box you can put stuff into, they’ve got. They also have a college/military truck-sharing message board. How cool is that?
And yes, U-haul sells their rental trucks when they update the fleet, but they don’t sell the trailers, possibly because trailers last forever.

You can rent a dolly or buy a dolly. You can pretty much rent any equipment you need. You need to buy the consumables, though. But they have a cool buy-back policy on all unused boxes. Now, boxes aren’t cheap. You may want to look at Costco for their one-size only document boxes. They have separate lids so you can get into them easier. A few special U-haul boxes and a whole bunch of Costco boxes should do you just fine.

Now, Budget pretty much rents trucks. You can get some big special-license trucks here, too. They also sell boxes that you can order on-line.

The best deals in truck rentals are going to be for two reasons: in the busy season (summer), you won’t be able to cut any deals. Your cheapest rentals are if you happen to be moving against the tide. Right now, you can get a deal if you move from the Pacific Northwest down to California. Any takers?
